Ladies and Modern Decency
It's hard to find a sophisticated woman nowadays, if you ask me. Women don't sit the way they used to, they don't speak the way they used to, and good Lord, they certainly don't dress the way they used to. Of course, everyone wants to follow the trend, whatever on earth that may be at any given time.
I, for one, am not into trends. I consider myself a very stable individual in all areas of my life. No hip-huggers, no new slang word added to the dictionary, no new religion should come between a woman and decency.
A woman should be, at the least, one who contains herself, at least most of the time. Yes, I know, it's just horrible not to be able to express ourselves. We all want everyone to know exactly what we're thinking, feeling, and even the color of undergarment we're wearing. Ladies, please keep the last to yourselves! Some things really should be kept a secret.
A few years ago, a friend let me borrow this wonderful book, Beauty and the Best by Beneth Peters Jones. This Christian woman covers just about everything, from table manners to conversations to fashion, and everything in between. The woman whom I borrowed the book from is someone you can spot amidst a million women. Her posture, the way of her speech, and even her smile are very unique, and inspire a sense of deep appreciation. She reminds me of actress Julie Andrews . Sophistication at its best!
I believe women, deep inside, desire to be different. They want to have class, decency, sophistication, but they're not willing to suppress that wild inner child. I'm not saying we should pretend to be different people. I have a lot of fun with friends and family while being myself and still am able to maintain myself "calm, cool, and collect."
As my Godmother says, "La decencia no se encuentra en la farmacia" or "Decency is not found at the pharmacy." Meaning, you can't just pick it up as you please. There's discipline involved.
Ladies, for what it's worth, discipline yourselves toward being the woman you really want to be.

Hear, hear!
I wasn't raised in the days of white gloves, hats, and girdles (I'm only 30), but I am Southern, and in that world, ladylike behavior and a demure demeanor still have a place.
I may wear low-rise (but not ultra-low) blue jeans and go to the grocery store in a ball cap without "my face on," but I always try to carry myself like a lady.
It makes a difference, and people notice -- really, they do.

Hey Anna
Hey Kym
Thank you gals for visiting.
Kym, I'm also 30, though I find myself often saying the opposite of you, not 'only 30' but 'already 30.'
Thanks for your comments, ladies.
